On our fourth day, at our turnaround point, we found sheep. I got my 155-160 ram about noon. Bedded at 315 yards, I took him as he got up to climb into some rocks and disappear. In the excitement my camera-man brought everything forward but the video camera. Oh, and range-finder.
It was the last day of August, and warm, so I started caping and boning immediately to get the meat cooled ... even before camera arrived. It paid off - we have great tasting meat.
We spent the next three and a half days packing it, and our stuff, down to one of the airfields.

Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep are BIG creatures ... way bigger than a mule deer, to which they are often, and mistakenly, compared. |
... it took us three and a half days of SOLID packing to get my ram (and stuff) ... to the nearest airfield. | |

We had the help of a trail crew - they loaned us one of their mules for the last four miles. Sweet. |
