The Slide ...

God started to speak simultaneously to Brian and I on the slide.  The slide is best assaulted straight up - where the rocks are the biggest.  The small rocks slide and roll ... you climb one step up, and slide three down ... you `spin your wheels' ... and at times you can get a bunch or rocks moving, big and small, and it can be dangerous.  It's exhausting, and you don't get anywhere.  The big rocks, on the other hand, if they move at all, move slow. If you do it right - even if they do move, you can `rock-hop' off one and onto the other.  But don't get under them.  Stay on top.  (And it's not easy with a pack on.)  You need to have the energy or momentum - if the rock you're on moves - to get off it and onto the next one.  Nor do you get above or below your climbing partner.

So it is in life - most of us spend most of our days spinning our wheels on small stuff - living long, uninteresting lives 1  ... sometimes we get all tangled up in small sins - and make no progress in life.  Or maybe it is small worries.  On the other hand - when we tackle the big stuff - we make progress - either tackling big sins, or, the big adventures.

Jesus helps us.

1 Paraphrasing from Black Hawk Down ...

God, help us attack the big stuff.
